The OSHA Fire Safety Training is designed for all kinds of audiences as fire safety is the responsibility of everyone on the worksite including managers, supervisors, and employees. The training is intended to familiarize learners with the basic fire hazards, fire prevention strategies, fire protection measures, and the course of action to follow in case of an emergency.

Each year, workplace fires lead to thousands of injuries, hundreds of fatalities, and millions of dollars in property damage. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a fire department responds to a fire every 24 seconds. The U.S. fire departments respond to about 36,784 fires annually, causing $1.5 billion in direct property damage.

Planning and training personnel is the key to responding to emergencies efficiently and minimizing injuries, fatalities, and property damage. Employees must receive training in the pertinent elements of the fire prevention plan and emergency action plan upon initial assignment, when the employee’s responsibilities change, and when the plans are changed or updated.

Fire safety is covered in specific OSHA standards for the general industry (29 CFR 1910 Subparts E and L), construction industry (29 CFR 1926 Subparts C and F), and maritime (29 CFR 1915 Subpart P).
