The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is the government agency responsible for regulating commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) in the United States. As an entry-level driver aiming to drive Class B single-straight vehicles and other trucks falling within this category, you must understand the FMCSA's regulations and obtain a special endorsement on your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). The CDL Class B training qualifies you to drive single-straight vehicles on public roadways. To obtain your CDL Class B license , you must pass the final exam of this CDL Class B training with an 80% pass mark or more.

Training Requirements
A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV). A CMV is any vehicle used for commerce that meets specific criteria, such as having a gross vehicle weight rating of at least 26,001 pounds or being designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.
To obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), drivers must follow several steps and meet specific eligibility requirements.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must meet the minimum age requirement set by the State.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license.
- Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency.
- Must pass a medical examination and obtain a Medical Examiner’s Certificate, verifying physical fitness to operate a CMV.
Step 1: Obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP)
- Pass the required knowledge tests to obtain a CLP.
- With a CLP, practice driving a Class B CMV under the supervision of a qualified CDL holder.
