OSHA SCBA Awareness and Safe Use Training

Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs) are air-supplying respirators that deliver clean, breathable air from a dedicated tank rather than relying on the surrounding atmosphere. SCBA technician training provides learners with an understanding of the purpose, components, and regulatory guidelines of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus systems, as well as when and why SCBA is used. The training provides the skills needed to safely and effectively conduct, maintain, troubleshoot, and wear SCBA equipment in hazardous environments.

This course meets and exceeds the compliance requirements outlined in OSHA SCBA regulations, specifically focused on 29 CFR 1910.134 and 29 CFR 1926.103.

Yes, workers who utilize a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) are required to undergo annual refresher training in accordance with OSHA Respiratory Protection standards. 

Retraining may be conducted more frequently in the following circumstances:

• A change in workplace or respirator type leads to previous training being outdated.
• Employee’s SCBA knowledge or use is so poor that it is evident he/she has not acquired the necessary skills.
• Any other situations arise that could compromise safe respirator use.
