Upon completing the final examination of this NYC SST 8-Hour Fall Prevention Training course, you can immediately download, save, or print your Course Completion Certificate in PDF format. In addition, once you finish the course, we will immediately report your completion to the DOB Training Connect.

To obtain an SST card, you will need to complete specific training courses based on your job role and prior experience in NYC construction.

Current Workers: If you were already working in NYC construction before the DOB's updated Site Safety Training requirements took effect, you must complete a 40-hour DOB-approved SST Worker course to qualify for an SST Worker card.

New Entrants: If you entered the NYC construction industry after December 1, 2019, you must complete a 10-hour OSHA course before starting work. Within six months of starting your job, you must complete an additional 30 hours of training to qualify for an SST Worker card.

The DOB does not issue citations directly to workers. However, your employer will not permit you on the job site without valid proof of Site Safety Training. This policy is in place because the DOB conducts random site inspections, and any site with untrained workers can face substantial penalties. Site owners, permit holders, and employers may incur civil fines of up to $5,000 per untrained worker if these requirements aren’t met.

To avoid disruptions to your work, it is mandatory to complete the required training by the deadlines set by Local Law 196.

Under NYC Building regulations, you have 3 options available – Option 1, Option 2, or an Option for New Workers. If you have already covered any courses from one of these options with another Department-approved SST course provider, you can complete the remaining courses within that option with HAZWOPER OSHA TRAINING LLC to receive your SST card.

For more information on course options to get a new SST card, please visit the SST Worker Information page here or the SST Supervisor Information page here.

We will accept documentation, including identification cards or certificates of completion, from other Department-approved SST course equivalents listed on the Department’s website. These hours can be applied toward satisfying the SST training requirements with us.

As a site owner, permit holder, or employer, you must certify that all workers under the permit have the required training. SST Cards must be validated using the Training Connect app before workers enter the site. Violations for untrained workers may result in civil penalties of up to $5,000 per worker, and failure to maintain a training log may incur a $2,500 penalty. The Department also conducts unannounced inspections at non-compliant sites.
