This CDL Class B to Class A Upgrade Training is for drivers holding a Class B license seeking to upgrade to CDL Class A License to drive Class A vehicles in commerce. From February 2022, the FMCSA requires drivers to complete a training program by an approved trainer before taking the knowledge test to upgrade to a ELDT Class A CDL.

Class A vehicle drivers do not need to receive recurrent training as the ELDT Class B to Class A Upgrade Training validity for the CDL does not expire. However, once an individual’s CDL expires, generally every five years, the driver must retake the CDL Class A license training for the new CDL. Training Requirements

A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required to operate a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV). A CMV is any vehicle used for commerce that meets specific criteria, such as having a gross vehicle weight rating of at least 26,001 pounds or being designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.

To upgrade to a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), drivers must follow several steps and meet specific eligibility requirements.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license.
  • Must provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency.
